Colorado Serum Tetanus Toxoid – Unconcentrated

Colorado Serum Tetanus Toxoid is a veterinary vaccine used to help prevent tetanus in healthy horses, cattle, sheep, goats, and swine. It is prepared by detoxifying tetanus toxin while preserving its antigenic properties to stimulate an immune response. Each serial is tested for purity, safety, and potency in accordance with USDA requirements.

Tetanus is caused by a neurotoxin produced by Clostridium tetani bacteria that grow in damaged tissue under anaerobic conditions. Signs may include muscle stiffness, jaw spasms (lockjaw), difficulty swallowing, rigid legs and tail, and labored breathing.

Protective antibody levels usually develop approximately two weeks after the second dose of the primary immunization series. This vaccine is intended for prevention, not immediate treatment of exposed animals or those showing signs of tetanus. Tetanus antitoxin may be recommended for immediate, temporary passive protection. Consult a veterinarian for appropriate treatment and vaccination guidance.

Dosage & Administration:

• Primary Immunization: Administer two doses approximately 30 days apart by subcutaneous or intramuscular injection.
• Horses and Cattle: 10 mL per dose.
• Sheep, Goats, and Swine: 1 mL per 100 lb of body weight.
• Horses: Use the intramuscular route because subcutaneous injection is more likely to cause local reactions.
• Booster: Annual revaccination has historically been recommended. Follow the current product label and your veterinarian's guidance for the appropriate schedule.

Withdrawal:

Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.

Storage:

Store at 2–8°C (36–46°F). Do not freeze.

Cautions & Warnings:

Do not mix with other products. Shake well before use and use the entire contents immediately after opening. Safety in pregnant animals is unknown. Contains Preservatives: Thimerosal and formaldehyde. A temporary injection-site reaction may occur. An anaphylactoid reaction is also possible; seek veterinary guidance for appropriate emergency treatment. In case of human exposure, consult a physician.
