Rx Interceptor® Plus

Interceptor® Plus is a prescription monthly chewable dewormer that helps protect dogs and puppies against heartworm disease and five common intestinal worm parasites. Its two active ingredients, milbemycin oxime and praziquantel, prevent heartworm disease and treat and control adult roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms.

With a tasty chicken flavor and convenient once-monthly dosing, Interceptor® Plus makes routine parasite prevention easier. It is approved for dogs and puppies 6 weeks of age and older weighing at least 2 pounds, with dosing based on the dog's weight.

Features:

  • Heartworm prevention: Helps prevent heartworm disease caused by mosquito-transmitted heartworm larvae.
  • Broad-spectrum parasite control: Treats and controls adult roundworms, hookworms, whipworms, and tapeworms.
  • Two active ingredients: Contains milbemycin oxime and praziquantel.
  • Monthly dosing: Convenient once-monthly chewable tablet.
  • Chicken flavor: Designed to make administration easier for dogs.
  • For dogs and puppies: For dogs at least 6 weeks old and weighing 2 pounds or more.
  • Multiple dosing sizes: Available in weight-specific strengths to help provide the appropriate dose.

Directions:

Administer orally once monthly at the dose prescribed by your veterinarian. Select the correct tablet strength based on your dog's weight and follow the product label.

  1. Prepare the dose: Remove one chewable tablet from its packaging and check the expiration date.
  2. Administer the tablet: Offer it by hand or with a small amount of food. Encourage your dog to chew the tablet rather than swallow it whole. The tablet may be broken or crushed into pieces if needed, provided the full dose is consumed.
  3. Confirm ingestion: Observe your dog to ensure the entire dose is eaten. If you suspect any of the dose was lost or rejected, contact your veterinarian for guidance on redosing.
  4. Maintain a schedule: Give the prescribed dose every month as directed by your veterinarian.

Active Ingredients:

  • Milbemycin oxime
  • Praziquantel

Possible Side Effects:

Reported adverse reactions include vomiting, diarrhea, depression or lethargy, ataxia (loss of coordination), decreased appetite, convulsions, weakness, and salivation. Contact your veterinarian if you notice concerning symptoms after administration.

Cautions/Warnings:

  • Prescription required: Use under veterinary supervision.
  • Heartworm testing: Dogs should be tested for existing heartworm infection before starting treatment. Infected dogs may require treatment to remove adult heartworms as directed by a veterinarian.
  • Adult heartworms: Interceptor® Plus is not effective against adult Dirofilaria immitis (heartworms).
  • Dogs with high microfilarial counts: Mild, temporary hypersensitivity reactions, including labored breathing, vomiting, excessive salivation, and lethargy, have been reported in some dogs treated with milbemycin oxime that have high numbers of circulating microfilariae.
  • Do not increase the dose or change the dosing schedule unless instructed by your veterinarian.
