Rx Banamine® Injection Solution (Flunixin Meglumine)
Banamine® Injection Solution contains flunixin meglumine, a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) used in horses and cattle to control pain, inflammation, and fever associated with specific conditions. In horses, it is indicated for relief of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders and visceral pain associated with colic. In cattle, it is indicated to control fever associated with bovine respiratory disease (BRD), endotoxemia, and acute bovine mastitis, as well as inflammation associated with endotoxemia.
Banamine Injection is administered intravenously (IV) in cattle and may be administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) in horses, according to the product label. This prescription medication should be used under veterinary direction, with careful attention to dosing, administration, and withdrawal requirements for food-producing animals.

Indications:
Cattle: Control of pyrexia associated with bovine respiratory disease, endotoxemia, and acute bovine mastitis; control of inflammation associated with endotoxemia.
Horses: Alleviation of inflammation and pain associated with musculoskeletal disorders and visceral pain associated with colic.
Dosage and Administration:
Use only as prescribed by a veterinarian. The following dosing information is from the supplied product labeling.
Cattle:

BRD-associated fever, endotoxemia-associated fever, and inflammation associated with endotoxemia: 1.1–2.2 mg/kg (0.5–1 mg/lb; 1–2 mL per 100 lb) by slow intravenous (IV) administration once daily as a single dose or divided into two doses 12 hours apart, for up to 3 days. The total daily dose must not exceed 2.2 mg/kg (1 mg/lb).

Acute bovine mastitis: 2.2 mg/kg (1 mg/lb; 2 mL per 100 lb) by intravenous (IV) administration as a single dose.
Horses:

Musculoskeletal disorders: 0.5 mg/lb (1 mL per 100 lb) once daily by intravenous (IV) or intramuscular (IM) injection, for up to 5 days.

Colic pain: 0.5 mg/lb (1 mL per 100 lb). Intravenous (IV) administration is recommended for prompt relief. Treatment may be repeated if signs of colic recur, as directed by a veterinarian. The cause of colic should be determined and treated appropriately.
Storage and Handling:
Store at or below 25°C (77°F). Do not freeze. Use within 28 days after the first vial puncture and puncture no more than 10 times. If using a draw-off spike or a needle with a bore diameter larger than 18 gauge, discard any product remaining in the vial immediately after use.
Withdrawal Information:

Cattle Slaughter: Do not slaughter for human consumption within 4 days after the last treatment.

Milk: Do not use milk for food during treatment or for 36 hours after the last treatment.

Dairy Cows: Not for use in dry dairy cows.

Calves: A withdrawal period has not been established for preruminating calves. Do not use in calves intended for veal.

Horses: Not for use in horses intended for food.

Cattle Administration: Approved for intravenous (IV) use only. Intramuscular (IM) administration may result in violative residues in edible tissues.
Cautions and Warnings:
- Federal law restricts this drug to use by or on the order of a licensed veterinarian.
- Use only as directed by a veterinarian. Do not exceed the prescribed dose or duration.
- Use caution in animals at risk of gastrointestinal ulceration, kidney problems, or other complications associated with NSAIDs. Discuss existing conditions and other medications with the veterinarian.
- Do not use in breeding or pregnant animals unless specifically directed by a veterinarian and permitted by the current product label.
- Observe all species-specific administration instructions and withdrawal periods.
