Special Minor Use — Reindeer and American Bison: Administer 200 mcg of ivermectin per kg of body weight by subcutaneous (SQ) injection, following the applicable cattle administration directions.
Administration Precautions:
- Subcutaneous (SC) Use Only: Do not administer intravenously or intramuscularly. In cattle, subcutaneous (SQ) administration helps reduce the risk of potentially fatal clostridial infection at the injection site.
- Sterile Equipment: Use sterile equipment and clean and disinfect the injection site before administration. Disinfect the vial stopper before withdrawing the product.
- Needle Recommendation for Cattle: A 16-gauge, 1/2- to 3/4-inch needle is suggested.
- Automatic Syringe Equipment: Use automatic syringe equipment with the applicable larger package sizes as directed by the product label.
- Avoid Underdosing: Calculate the dose using each animal's current body weight. Underdosing may result in ineffective treatment and contribute to parasite resistance.
- Swine Reactions: Mild, temporary pain may occur after subcutaneous administration.
Recommended Swine Treatment Program:
- Breeding Herd: Treat all breeding animals when initiating a parasite control program.
- Sows: Treat preferably 7–14 days before farrowing to help minimize piglet infection.
- Gilts: Treat 7–14 days before breeding and again 7–14 days before farrowing, as directed by the label.
- Boars: Treatment frequency depends on exposure; treat at least twice yearly.
- Weaners and Feeder Pigs: Treat before moving pigs into clean quarters. Retreatment may be necessary if pigs are exposed to contaminated soil or pasture and reinfection occurs.
