Express® 5 Cattle Vaccine

Express® 5 is a modified-live virus (MLV) vaccine for healthy cattle that aids in the prevention of respiratory disease caused by infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR), bovine viral diarrhea (BVD) Types 1 and 2, parainfluenza 3 (PI3), and bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV). The vaccine is supplied with adjuvanted diluent and is reconstituted before administration. Duration of immunity against IBR-induced abortion is at least 12 months.

Benefits:

• Helps protect against four major viral causes of bovine respiratory disease.
• Includes protection against BVD Types 1 and 2.
• Provides at least 12 months of immunity against IBR-induced abortion.

• May be used in pregnant cows or calves nursing pregnant cows, provided the cows were vaccinated before breeding according to label instructions with any Express® FP vaccine.

Protects Against:

• Infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR): A respiratory disease caused by bovine herpesvirus 1.
• Bovine viral diarrhea (BVD): Types 1 and 2.
• Parainfluenza 3 (PI3): A viral contributor to bovine respiratory disease.
• Bovine respiratory syncytial virus (BRSV): A viral cause of respiratory illness in cattle.

Directions:

Mix the accompanying diluent bottle as directed on the label. Using aseptic technique, reconstitute the vaccine by adding the diluent to the vaccine vial. Mix thoroughly and use immediately. Administer subcutaneously (SQ) in front of the shoulder and midway down the neck, away from the suprascapular lymph node. Follow label instructions for reconstitution and administration.

Dosage & Vaccination Schedule:

• Dose: 2 mL per animal.
• Initial vaccination: Administer one 2 mL dose and repeat in 14–28 days with an Express® vaccine containing BRSV MLV, as directed on the label.
• Annual revaccination: Consult your veterinarian or the manufacturer for guidance on revaccination frequency.
• Calves: Calves vaccinated before 6 months of age should be revaccinated at 6 months.
• Before stress or exposure: A 2 mL booster is recommended before anticipated stress or exposure.

Available Package Sizes:

• 10 Doses: One 10-dose vial of MLV vaccine and one 20 mL vial of adjuvanted diluent.
• 50 Doses: One 50-dose vial of MLV vaccine and one 100 mL vial of adjuvanted diluent.

Withdrawal Period:

Do not vaccinate cattle within 21 days before slaughter.

Precautions:

• Pregnant cattle: May be used in pregnant cows or calves nursing pregnant cows, provided the cows were vaccinated before breeding according to label instructions with any Express® FP vaccine.
• Fetal health risks associated with vaccination of pregnant animals could not be definitively determined in clinical trials conducted for licensure. Discuss vaccination risks and appropriate strategies with a veterinarian.
• Do not vaccinate stressed cattle.
• Do not mix with other products except as specified on the label.
• Use the entire contents when first opened.
• Injection-site swelling may occur.
• If an anaphylactoid reaction occurs, administer epinephrine.
• In case of human exposure, contact a physician.
• Inactivate unused vaccine contents before disposal.
• No vaccine provides 100% protection under all conditions. Persistently infected BVD calves may seriously affect herd health.

Storage:

Store at 2–8°C (35–46°F), protected from direct sunlight. Do not freeze. Reconstituted vaccine should be used immediately.
