Bovi-Shield IBR Cattle Vaccine, 50 Doses
Bovi-Shield IBR is a modified-live virus (MLV) vaccine for healthy beef and dairy cattle that helps protect against respiratory disease caused by infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus. When administered subcutaneously, a 9-month duration of immunity has been demonstrated. The vaccine may also be administered intramuscularly, although protection against respiratory disease is established for the subcutaneous route.
Benefits:
- IBR protection: Helps protect against respiratory disease caused by infectious bovine rhinotracheitis virus.
- Flexible administration: May be administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly.
- Demonstrated immunity: Provides 9 months of demonstrated duration of immunity when administered subcutaneously.
- Herd vaccination: 50-dose vial for beef and dairy cattle vaccination programs.
Protects Against:
- Respiratory disease caused by infectious bovine rhinotracheitis (IBR) virus.
Directions:
Aseptically rehydrate the freeze-dried vaccine with the sterile diluent provided. Mix well before administration. Use sterile syringes and needles. Do not sterilize equipment with chemical disinfectants, as residue may inactivate the vaccine. Do not mix with other products except as specified on the label. Administer 2 mL per animal. In accordance with Beef Quality Assurance guidelines, subcutaneous injections should be given in the neck region.
Dosage & Vaccination Schedule:
- Primary vaccination: Administer one 2 mL dose to healthy cattle.
- Administration routes: Subcutaneous (SQ) or intramuscular (IM). A 9-month duration of immunity has been demonstrated when administered SQ.
- Calves: Maternal antibodies may interfere with active immunity. Calves vaccinated before 6 months of age should be revaccinated after 6 months of age.
- Revaccination: Annual revaccination is recommended. Consult a veterinarian or the manufacturer for guidance. Revaccination may be considered when subsequent stress or exposure is likely.
Available Package Sizes:
- 50 doses - 100 mL vial
Withdrawal Period:
Do not vaccinate within 21 days before slaughter.
Precautions:
- Pregnancy: Do not use in pregnant cows unless they were vaccinated according to label directions with a Bovi-Shield GOLD FP or PregGuard GOLD FP vaccine within the previous 12 months. Vaccination outside this condition may result in abortions. Fetal health risks associated with modified-live vaccines have not been fully determined in clinical trials. Discuss vaccination strategies with a veterinarian.
- Calves nursing pregnant cows: May be vaccinated only if their dams received a Bovi-Shield GOLD FP or PregGuard GOLD FP vaccine according to label directions within the previous 12 months.
- Animal health: For use in healthy cattle. A protective immune response may be reduced in animals that are incubating disease, malnourished, parasitized, stressed, immunocompromised, or vaccinated contrary to label directions.
- Adverse reactions: Anaphylaxis may occur. Epinephrine is recommended as the initial antidote, followed by appropriate supportive therapy.
- Preservative: Contains gentamicin.
- Human exposure: In case of accidental exposure, contact a physician.
- Disposal: Use the entire contents when first opened. Inactivate unused contents before disposal.
Storage:
Store at 2–8°C (36–46°F). Do not freeze. Protect from prolonged exposure to higher temperatures and direct sunlight, which may reduce vaccine potency.
