BotVax B Vaccine for Horses

BotVax® B Equine Botulism Vaccine, 2 mL

BotVax® B is a USDA-approved monovalent toxoid vaccine for the prevention of equine botulism caused by Clostridium botulinum Type B in healthy horses. Type B botulism can affect both foals and adult horses, with signs that may progress rapidly and become life-threatening. Vaccination helps protect horses against Type B botulism associated with forage poisoning, shaker foal syndrome (toxicoinfectious botulism), and wound botulism.

BotVax® B is the only USDA-approved vaccine specifically for equine botulism Type B and is included in the American Association of Equine Practitioners (AAEP) vaccination guidelines.

Directions:

• Initial series: Shake well before use. Using aseptic technique, inject 2 mL intramuscularly at monthly intervals for a total of 3 doses.
• Annual booster: Administer a single 2 mL intramuscular dose annually.
• Use the entire contents of the vial when first opened. Do not store opened vials.

Storage:

Store unopened vials at 2–8°C (35–46°F). Do not freeze. Do not store opened vials.

Cautions/Warnings:

For use in healthy horses only. This vaccine does not provide protection against other Clostridium botulinum toxin types. Temporary injection-site reactions, including heat and minor swelling, may occur. Anaphylactoid reactions may occur. Epinephrine is identified as an antidote. Follow the product label and your veterinarian’s recommendations for vaccination.
