Bell Boots For Horses
Bell boots are used to protect horses' front hooves and shoes when riding and when turned out. Made from a variety of durable and pliable materials, bell boots are also commonly called overreach boots. A simple overstep can pull a shoe, leaving your horse barefoot and out of training until the farrier can get to you. Overstepping can result in bruising or tearing of the pastern, bulb of the hoof, or coronary band. Bell boots protect from the pastern right below the ankle all the way down to the shod hoof. With any horse prone to overreaching, bell boots are a practical, easy solution that will keep your horse’s hooves protected.
The most basic bell boot is made from a durable ribbed rubber, and is designed to protect the hoof and absorb impact. They are available as pull-on bell boots or as quick release self-fastening bell boots in a wide range of colors to meet your needs. Often, rubber bell boots will have added padding around the pastern to protect the horse during extended periods of wear.
Overreach boots are also constructed of heavy duty and durable nylon. Sometimes referred to as no-turn bell boots, they mold to the hoof for a tight fit and protection. This style of nylon bell boot can be lined with a softer material and can cut down on rubbing or chafing due to sensitive skin or extended use. Similar to nylon no-turn bell boots, brands like Professional’s Choice and Classic Equine offer neoprene bell boots that are durable, shock absorbing, and soft. With many styles and brands, Jeffers Equine offers options to meet you and your horse’s needs and keep their hooves protected.
