Try a Heated Poultry Fountain or Base
Heated Poultry Fountain
All your animals need fresh, clean water to drink -- even the birds. But your poultry can't quench their thirst if their drinking water is frozen. If you have challenges with keeping your chickens' water from icing over, try a heated poultry fountain. Jeffers Livestock carries the Allied Precision Industries 3.3 gallon heated waterer for poultry with energy-efficient dual heating elements. The unit is thermostatically controlled to keep drinking water ice free. It contains two heating elements, one 40-watt and one 60-watt. Its 6-foot heavy-duty cord can be stored away when you're not using it.
Heated Metal Base for Fountains
If you already have a metal poultry fountain and don't want to replace it, try putting it on a heated base instead. The Farm Innovators heated metal base can be used with any double-wall metal fountain, metal bowl or bucket. It prevents water from freezing in temperatures as low as 10°F, and the 125-watt thermostatically controlled heater operates automatically when temperatures drop below 35°F. Whichever choice you make, your chickens will be happy to be able to drink their water straight up instead of on the rocks.
