Sasquatch Acres Ranch - Their Story
Sasquatch Acres Ranch was founded by Mellie and Jerad in August 2022, with the nonprofit status achieved in September 2023. Jerad is a 17-year military veteran, including 10 combat deployments, while Mellie has spent 9 years in law enforcement, specializing in child crime. Their shared experiences with trauma, from combat and first responder work, led them to create the rescue. Their mission is to provide sanctuary to both humans and animals in need, focusing on healing through care, compassion, and support.
In 2023, Jerad was deployed, and Mellie, pregnant at the time, juggled running the rescue and her law enforcement career. They were overjoyed when Jerad returned just days after the birth of their daughter, Charlotte. However, their journey has been marked by hardship. In January 2024, a severe storm destroyed their newly built pole barn and tractor. Later, in April, Jerad suffered severe burns in an accident while cleaning up storm debris. Despite these challenges, the ranch continues to care for 80 animals, including horses, cows, goats, and donkeys, many of whom have special needs.
The mission of Sasquatch Acres Ranch is to keep the rescue running and provide for the animals, who have become family. Jerad and Mellie had always supported the rescue on their own, but after the hardships they’ve faced, they are reaching out to the community for support.
